Vineta Petersone is a UCI Pump Track World Championship bronze medalist. On Friday, October 16 in Mentougou, Beijing, the Supercross BMX Factory Team rider finished third in the women's final behind Nadine Aeberhard of Switzerland and Sabina Košárková of the Czech Republic. She did it on her Vision F1, the same frame she races BMX on.
The Pump Track World Championships are a one-day final at the end of a season of qualifiers around the world. Vineta earned her place in Nicaragua back in the spring, where she won the women's qualifier outright, then spent the summer racing BMX World Cups and the Riga Grand Prix in between. In Beijing she put two clean runs together when it counted and came away with the medal.
Aeberhard took the world title, Košárková the silver, Vineta the bronze. Three riders from three countries, separated by fractions of a second over a lap that lasts less than half a minute.
Vineta rode the Vision F1, a Pro XL in Prime Blue. It is the bike she has raced for four years: two Olympic Games on it, a run of UCI Pump Track World Championship finals on it, World Cup mains on it, and a win at the Riga Grand Prix on it five weeks ago. She did not change frames for Beijing. She did not need to.
That is the whole argument for racing a BMX race frame on a pump track. A pump track rewards a stiff frame that turns every push into speed, with nothing to set up and nothing to tune. The Vision F1 was the first monocoque carbon BMX race frame in the world, and it is now the frame under a world championship bronze medal on a pump track. In 2021, Aiko Gommers won the world title on a Vision F1 too. The pump track story at Supercross rides on the Vision.

Tommy Zula made the men's final and finished eighth, in a field won by Jesse Elzenga of the Netherlands with the fastest run of the event. Eighth in the world at a championship where one bobble ends your day is a real result, and Tommy has been to more of these finals than almost anyone.
Vineta is a two-time Olympian and the anchor of the Supercross women's program, racing alongside Lexis Colby. A world championship medal in October, after a season that already had a Riga Grand Prix win and a pump track qualifier win in it, is the kind of year that gets remembered.
Congratulations, Vineta. And congratulations, Tommy.
