Three Days in Louisville: Deegan, Gaige and Lexis at the Derby City Nationals

Labor Day weekend meant Louisville, and the USA BMX Derby City Nationals ran three days on one of the biggest first straights on the national tour. Three of our Supercross BMX Factory Team riders raced all three days. Here is how it went.

Deegan Brown

Deegan Brown is in his first year as a pro, and this is the weekend that showed what that year is turning into. Friday was the UCI-format day, and he finished 4th in Men Under 23 against a field that included Sean Day, Marshall Gehrke and Gavin Stazetski.

Saturday and Sunday were the Men Pro mains, the full pro field with Cameron Wood, Drew Polk, Josh Jolly and Izaac Kennedy in the gate. Deegan made the main both days. He finished 5th on Saturday and 6th on Sunday.

Two Men Pro mains in one weekend as a rookie is the kind of result that gets a rider noticed. As of this morning Deegan sits 27th in the USA BMX Men Pro standings, on a list that includes Kamren Larsen, Drew Polk, Joris Daudet and Niek Kimmann, and he got there in his first season. He is making a real run at the Golden Crank Rookie Pro of the Year, and Louisville put more weight behind that. Every main he makes from here to the Grands is a vote.

Gaige Gomolicke

Gaige Gomolicke raced the ABA Futures Men class, which ran 63 riders deep on Saturday. He made the main both days, 5th on Saturday and 7th on Sunday, in a class won by Marshall Gehrke and then Evan Esposito.

Gaige is one of the riders on our big-size Vision F1x frames, and he has been making Futures mains all season. Two more in Louisville against a field that size moved him to 5th in the USA BMX Futures Men standings, 330 points, behind Cutter Godaire, Zakary Kaiser, Evan Esposito and Tommy Bruney. Top five in the country with the Grands still to come.

Lexis Colby

Lexis Colby raced Women Elite on Friday and finished 9th, one spot out of the main. Sunday she put it together. The Women Pro main went into the first turn with a pile-up in front of her, and she came out of the dust in 5th behind Lauren Reynolds, Payton Ridenour and Alexis Alden.

Lexis came back from injury this season, and a top five in a Women Pro main is exactly the kind of result she has been working toward. She sits 10th in the USA BMX Women Pro standings before the Louisville points are added, so that number is only going one direction. More to come.
