BMX entered the Olympics in 2008, and Supercross built the S7 to give its Olympic campaign every advantage the rule book allowed. Easton scandium tubing made it the lightest production BMX race frame in the world at its launch.
Scandium was Easton's hottest material of the era — a high-performance aluminum alloy that let the S7 hit 2.9 pounds in Pro XL. Tube shapes were refined again and again to remove stress points and add strength, and prototypes were durability-tested on trails by Randy Roberts before the frame ever raced.
The S7 was built for one rider and one race: Samantha Cools, racing for Canada at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Supercross built her frame specifically to put her on the most advanced frame at the Games — a custom Canada red-and-white S7 she raced under plate 56, in BMX's first Olympic appearance.
The frame was also expensive to build — the MSRP eventually reached $800, extreme for BMX at the time, and even the factory team couldn't all be equipped with them. The search for that performance at a workable price led directly to the ENVY.
