Q&A WITH VINETA

Tell me about yourself. Who are you? How old are you? What class do you currently race? When did you start racing? How did you start racing? Etc.

I’m Vineta Petersone from Latvia. Im 23 years old and I race women elite / women pro. I grew up on the bike following my older brother footsteps. I was on bike as soon as I could get on one and at age of 5 I was already competing.

What are some of your biggest achievements within the sport?

I won quite a lot European titles in challenge years but winning bronze in junior world champs in Rockhill with borrowed bike is probably still the most memorable result. I also made a main in SQY World cup first year elite. And of course getting to Olympics was awesome.

Tell us a bit about your experience in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics!

Such a big event! So many things involved around it, it’s crazy. The media, the preparation, the logistics, the Olympic villa, the qualification, it was something else Ive never experienced and that got me really nervous. In BMX we don’t have any event nearly as big as the Olympics. It’s was amazing to experience it! Cant wait for Paris!

What’s your current local track?

Right now I can say it’s Bogota SX in Colombia.

What’s your favorite thing about BMX Racing and Why?

I love riding my bike and push to go as fast as I can because its never enough, you can always improve something on your bike and the process to learn new things to go fast is something I really enjoy. Also the traveling is awesome, get to know the world riding a bike is something I love about bmx.

What are your hobbies outside of racing?

Nothing big, Im really girlie outside the track, I enjoy my time doing make up and doing my nails, also I enjoy rollerskating whenever I can.

What are some of your goals for your racing career?

As I told you guys, Olympics where a bit overwhelming for me at Tokio, so my goal right now is to be able to perform at my 100% at Paris, I want to get there in my best shape and have a better result with better feelings on my bike.

What is your favorite dessert?

As long as is sweet and tastes good, it will be my favorite dessert hahaha

Who is your favorite BMX Rider?

Maris Strombergs on he’s prime. He was so strong and fast and he’s also Latvian. He inspired all Latvia winning two Olympics.
