Lexis "Lightning" Colby is a Pro Women BMX racer from Surprise, Arizona. Eighteen years on the bike. She joined the Supercross BMX Factory Team and made it count in year one — two Elite wins and a World Cup Final qualification in her debut season on the team.
Lexis is coached by Arielle Martin — 2012 USA Olympic BMX team member and one of the most respected names in women's BMX coaching. The combination of that coaching, eighteen years of riding, and the support of the factory program is the foundation she's building on. Her goals are set on the Olympic stage and on the impact she wants to leave on the sport long after she stops racing.
Racing on the Vision F1 Pro in Lightning Teal — a custom paint that matches the nickname — Lexis is on the same flagship platform raced by the rest of the Supercross factory roster. The bike, the team, the coaching, eighteen years of work. Everything points the same direction.
Tell us about yourself.
I'm Lexis "Lightning" Colby, 23 years old from Surprise, Arizona. I race Women Pro and I've been on a BMX bike for 18 years. My coach is Arielle Martin.
What's your favorite thing about racing for Supercross?
The team — they're truly family. And the Lightning Teal frame, of course.
Favorite track and favorite event?
Sarrians in France is my favorite track. USA BMX Grands is my favorite event — Tulsa in November is something every BMX racer needs to experience.
What's the best thing about BMX?
The process and the community. The work you put in alone, and the people you do it with.
What's the hardest thing about BMX?
Losing. That's it. Everything else comes with the territory.
What do you do outside of racing?
Baking sourdough. I'm into it.
Quick fire — food, drink, music, guilty pleasure, pet peeve?
Food: steak or pasta. Drink: Dr Pepper. Music: country — Bailey Zimmerman. Guilty pleasure: any sweet treat. Pet peeve: forks scraping on plates.
Heroes and role models?
Bubba Harris and Arielle Martin. Both shaped what BMX racing means to me.
