Who Is Vineta?

Vineta Petersone is a Latvian Elite Women BMX racer and a member of the 2026 Supercross BMX Factory Team. She competes on the UCI international circuit — the highest level of the sport — and she does it carrying the flag of a country that has put BMX on the map in a way few nations can claim. She is a two-time Olympian, having raced in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and is one of the most consistent women in the world on the UCI Pump Track Worlds circuit.

Latvia is not a large country, but in BMX it carries massive weight. This is the nation that produced Maris Strombergs — two-time Olympic Gold medalist and one of the most decorated BMX racers in history. That kind of national program doesn't happen by accident. It's built on infrastructure, coaching, and a culture that takes elite BMX development seriously from an early age. Vineta is a product of that system.

The connection between Latvia and Supercross BMX runs deep. Maris Strombergs rides for the factory team. So does Kristers Aples. Vineta joins that roster as the Elite Women representative — a rider from the same elite national tradition, now carrying the Supercross brand on the world's biggest UCI stages. Racing on the Vision carbon frame, she has the equipment to match her ambition.

Q&A With Vineta

Tell us about yourself.

Im Vineta Petersone from Latvia. Im 27 years old and I race women elite / women pro. I grew up on the bike following my older brother footsteps. I was on a bike as soon as I could get on one and at age of 5 I was already competing.

What are your biggest achievements in BMX racing?

I won quite a lot European titles in challenge years but winning bronze in junior world champs in Rock Hill with borrowed bike is probably still the most memorable result. I also made a main in SQY World Cup first year elite. And of course getting to two Olympics — Tokyo and Paris — was awesome.

Pump Track is a huge part of your story too. Walk us through it.

Pump track has been such a big thing for me. I started winning qualifiers in 2021 — Portugal, Sweden, Germany — and from there I just kept going every year. World Champs in Santiago, Chile in 2022 was my first podium, third place. Then second in 2023, third again in 2024 in Durban, and just off the podium in fourth in Monthey, Switzerland in 2025. This year I won my qualifier in Nicaragua, so Im heading to Beijing for the 2026 Worlds. Pump track keeps me sharp between BMX seasons and I love it.

Tell us about racing the Olympics.

Such a big event. Tokyo was my first one and it was something else — the media, the preparation, the logistics, the Olympic village, the qualification, I had never experienced anything like that and it got me really nervous. We don't have anything close to it in BMX. Getting back there for Paris and doing it all over again is something I'll never take for granted.

What do you love about BMX racing?

I love riding my bike and pushing to go as fast as I can because its never enough. You can always improve something on your bike and the process to learn new things to go fast is something I really enjoy. Also the traveling is awesome — getting to know the world riding a bike is something I love about bmx.

What do you do outside of racing?

Nothing big. Im really girlie outside the track. I enjoy my time doing make up and doing my nails, also I enjoy rollerskating whenever I can.

Favorite dessert?

As long as is sweet and tastes good, it will be my favorite dessert hahaha.

Favorite BMX rider?

Māris Štrombergs in his prime. He was so strong and fast and he's also Latvian. He inspired all Latvia winning two Olympics.
