12/07/06 Update: Our 2pc Cro-mo Supercross Sinners Cranks are shipping. They use the same bone shape molded arm that the StrongArms use but have the intergrated Oversize 24mm spindle and use an FSA outboard Bearing Kit and a removeable 104BCD 4 bolt spider. These new Sinners Cranks are available at your local Authorized Supercross Dealer, or The Authorized Mail Order Houses ( ie. Dan's Comp, J&R Express, BMX Hex, Revolution, Aggro, Westmoreland Bike Supply etc...or our Shop Page.
When we first started Supercross, we knew we wanted to only build parts that would help you ride better and cranks were one of the projects we started on first. We built our first cro-mo crankset back in 1989, it was a tubular cro-mo arm, with a 6 spline broach and a single pinch per arm. While it was the same basic thing that was on the market, we were not satisfied and designed a new lighter, stronger Aluminum crank arm. These Aluminum StrongArms sold well for us for quite a few years, they were lighter, stiffer and stronger than what was currently available. It was not until 2001 when we went back to the cro-mo design.
The only reason we went back to the cro-mo design was that by utilizing a 2 pc arm as we currently have we are able to fine tune the ride of the crank to give you a stiffer and stronger crank arm with the constant reliabilty of 4130 cro-mo. Our current StrongArm design still utilizes a 3/4" 6 spline broach, which is easy to install and easy to remove, we also have a dual pinch bolt system so that you can always no matter how many times you remove and install your cranks can be assured that they will always feel as stiff and tight as the first time.
Now even though our cranks utilize a 3/4" spindle the gears that fit a regular 3/4" spindle do not fit our cranks due to the fact that we have a broach on the backside of our arm for the gear to ride on, we do this to ensure that your gear runs truer and smoother and virtually eliminates the egg shaping of the center hole that is so common on conventional cranks. Our cranks require a 15/16" I.D. which is the same size that any 1pc crank takes and is the most common size of gear available. There are great gears and spiders available from Answer, Sharp, Snap, and many many others.
Currently the StrongArms are available in 175 and 180 mm only but we are working on other sizes. They take a std. 9/16" pedal which is common for all 3 pc cranks and come stock with a 4 sealed bearing, alloy cupped BB kit w/ a cro-mo Supercross Spindle.
You can purchase these Supercross Strongarms by going to your local Supercross Dealer or Authorized Mail Order Outlet, but if you do not have a local shop you can purchase them here for the MSRP of $199.95.
There is a Aluminum Jr. version of the Strongarm available, for the first year we sold it under our Supercross name, the crank design was so popular that Answer asked to license the crank from us, so we still maintain the design of that crank, but Answer handles the marketing and sales. It is thier Answer SX Jr. Crank, more information on that crank can be found by clicking here.
